State of the Art Technologies for Kids

My goodness have you come to the right page. There is no program in the country that offers kids, or adults for that matter, the chance to use such advanced technologies. We are unaware of anyone who has invested in such cutting edge systems to our scale. Students learn in our 2,000 s.f. state of the art animation studio in Needham, MA. We are very proud of the feedback we've received from very satisfied parents & guardians. Depending on their interest, your child will build their own interactive web page via JavaScript, watch themselves live on TV in their own interactive animated cartoon or video game, use motion capture to electronically connect themselves to a cartoon character (when your child moves so does their cartoon character in synch, knock down virtual objects in their very own virtual reality experience (this is really cool) or design & print their own cell phone case using our 3D printing lab (the largest in the state). When we are hired for a party or event (like a Bar/Bat Mitzvah or corporate holiday party), the lines at our stations are always the longest. People, especially kids, love learning to program our technologies. All of our systems use the fastest computer & video processors in the world. There is literally no place in the world like Kids Digital U. All students receive a non-commercial license to Cinema 4D.

 

We own commercial licenses to Cinema 4D, the Adobe Creative Cloud (which is essentially all of the Adobe platforms), Black Magic, Unity 3D, MakerBot, Red Giant, Perception Neuron, Microsoft Vive Virtual Reality and all of the popular plug ins. We maintain the largest virtual gaming library in the state. We also maintain the largest student 3D printing lab for kids in the state (excluding colleges). Of course these names are trademarks of their respective owners. Remember we also make all of our technologies available for your event. From a bar or bat mitzvah to a corporate retreat, our technologies help create an experience like no other.

  • Computer coding is the process of learning a computer language then writing scripts, or lines of code one after another, to have the computer do something. JavaScript is a computer language that makes web pages interactive. While html provides text on a website and CSS makes the web pages pretty, most web pages today use JavaScript so the viewer can communicate with the website. We also use JavaScript in our video game development classes (as well as a language called C Sharp). Listen to any expert on basic skills your kids will need in the future and the ability to program will be at the top of the list whatever ones profession. Basic coding skills will be a must. Scratch coding is a great language developed at MIT. There are no out of pocket costs or anything to purchase to be able to write code.

  • We teach students how to make a simple 3D video game using Unity 3D. Using basic animation concepts learn in our beginners 3D design & animation classes, students design most of their game in Cinema 4D and then bring their assets into Unity 3D. We can also then export their projects to our virtual reality systems. It's jaw dropping cool. Students are also provided an overview of how to use JavaScript and C Sharp coding inside Unity 3D.

  • 3D design is the process of creating a 3D object from scratch. Using Cinema 4D, students learn to start with a basic cube or sphere and create beatiful media. Here we show off one of our student's design...a computer keypad with our name as the Enter button. You can literally design anything in 3D. We provide our students hundreds of commercial quality 3D projects for their personal use.

  • 3D animation is the process of creating a video project. In our programs students learn how to use keyframes in a project timeline. Usually a project is calibrated at 30 frames per second. Hence students learn how to position, scale and rotate their objects over say 300 frames for a 10 second animation. There are countless other tools to provide dramatic effects including the use of physics tools to emulate gravity, deformers to make objects do goofy things and effectors that manage multiple assets at a time. Kids love it!

  • Virtual reality is simply amazing technology. The great news is, though there are a couple of steps, it is quite simple to make a virtual reality project. Students make a scene, object or animation inside of Cinema 4D then export their work to Unity 3D (our video gaming software). Unity 3D has a plug in that allows the Vive virtual reality machines to see your work. It is jaw dropping cool and technically very simple to do. Please speak with us before considering buying your own virtual reality equipment. There are considerable other costs than just the Vive machines. You need a high performance computer with a fast video card.

  • Motion capture is a fun technology students learn in our programs. Motion capture is a system of 32 electronic sensors fit to the human body as you can see in the picture. The motion capture "suit" is then connected to our proprietary Cinema 4D character libtrary. We are unaware of any like program in the country that offers any nevermind multiple 3D characters fitted to Cinema 4D. The motion capture technology only became commercially available in December 2015. We are thrilled to be so far ahead of our peers.

  • Character animation is, as you probably could guess, the process of creating a 3D character and building a system of joints (like bones) that are then skinned to the character itself so movements can be keyed. Though our investment in motion capture technology has made this somewhat obsolete it is still important students have a basic understanding of how to rig a character...especially if they want to move on to video gaming. We have our own proprietary catalog of commercial 3D characters. Students receive a non-commercial license to use our characters in their personal projects.

  • We have made substantial investments in Black Magic technologies to be able to produce live, interactive and layered video production. Simply put, using our systems students are able to create live 3D animated video projects on the spot. This is somewhat like what you see when a weatherperson delivers a live forecast. The investments we've made allow our students to test their work in a way no other tech program can.

  • 3D printing has come a long ways. We've made significant investments in our MakerBot 3D printer lab. 3D printing is the process of creating tangible, or plastic replicas, of digital objects created using Cinema 4D. We maintan the largest 3D printing lab for kids in the state. Generally our students share one of our 3D printers with at most one other student.
