WINTER SESSIONS STARTING SOON

You may now also enroll your child/children in our 3D Summer Tech Camp for the summer of 2018. Tuitions in our 3D Summer Tech Camp are discounted 12.5% or $100/week for those who enroll by December 31, 2017. In 2017 our summer program was ranked the #1 co-ed 3D summer tech program for kids aged 10 to 18 in all of Massachusetts by Hulafrog in Brookline. Our 2018 summer tuitions cost 15% and 33% less, before the early enrollment, sibling and referrals discounts, than the #2 and #3 ranked summer 3D camps in 2017, respectively. We were also just spotlighted on www.bostonvoyager.com as one of the "hidden gems" for kids of Boston. To learn more about our 3D Summer Tech Camp click on our camps link in the menu or click here to enroll your child/children for the coming summer right now.

Please also consider subscribing to our newsletter as we add new programs often.

Our winter schedules are noted below and start the first week of January 2018.

Our winter programs end the week of Monday March 19 to Saturday March 24, 2018.

We will be closed during the February 2018 public school vacation week. Our spring sessions will start the first week of April 2018.

AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES ($595): 3:45 to 5:15 PM GRADE 4* & UP

(includes complimentary early drop off at 3:15 PM and pick up until 5:45 PM)

Teachers: Jennifer T., Aidan L. and one CIT from our summer program every other week.

Click on the day of the week above to enroll your child in our after school program on the respective day.

* A student in grade 3 may enroll in our after school program if he/she has a sibling attending at the same time and/or obtains approval from a Kids Digital U representative. Call us if you have a child in grade 3.

Our after school program is very much like our 3D Summer Tech Camp. Students invest roughly half of their time learning 3D in a traditional manner while the other half of class time is relaxed where kids have opportunities to use our more advanced technologies like virtual & augmented reality and our new air graffiti touch booths. If you or your child prefer a more rigid, focused or intense learning experience then he/she should enroll in one of our evening or weekend classes noted below. After school classes are capped at 8 students per day.

Returning Students: Returning students will continue to develop their 3D skills whether it's 3D design, animation and/or 3D printing. What will be very new this winter is we expect Maxon to release Cinema 4D R19 in a student version (Cinema 4D R19 was released for commercial customers at the end of the summer of 2017). Cinema 4D R19 is considerably more compatible with today's advanced virtual reality systems. Simply put it is much easier to export projects made via Cinema 4D R19 to our HTC Vive virtual reality labs than ever before. NOTE: Though it has been our experience that new versions/releases of Cinema 4D have always been available for our students by January of every year, we have no control over the release of R19 in a student version and make no assurance it will be available for our winter students. That being said we do expect our students to be able to create stunning projects that can be viewed directly via our HTC Vive virtual reality labs. Towards the end of our winter session students will create projects that will be completed over several weeks and ultimately exported to our virtual reality lab.

New Students: New students will learn 3D design & animation from scratch. Students are provided a non-commercial, 18 month license to Cinema 4D with literally hundreds to professional 3D design & animation projects. Kids first learn the basics of 3D including the concepts of position, scale and rotation of objects over the X, Y & Z axis'. As the class moves along students learn everything that comes in 3D design & animation including design tools, materials/coloring, lighting and rendering. Later in the session kids also learn intermediate tools like deformers to make their objects do goofy things and physics based tools to emulate wind and gravity.

EVENING & WEEKEND CLASSES ($495): AGES NOTED BELOW

Click the respective program above to enroll your child.

Our evening and weekend class curriculums are focused and specific. Students invest most of the 90 minutes of class in a traditional teacher & student setting where kids are being directly instructed and learning seated in front of a computer. If your child/children is/are more interested in a casual learning experience please consider our after school programs that are run very much like our 3D Summer Tech Camp. Historically we have had students in grade 9 in our after school program who thrive learning in a more casual environment.

Beginners 3D: In these classes kids learn & practice the fundamentals of 3D design & animation. This class is ideal for complete beginners and for students who have been through one or two of our classes and/or camps in the past. We will start with an overview of 3D including basic concepts as position, scale and rotation over an X, Y & Z axis. We will also show how the idea of these 3D concepts are consistent with building a website even if only in 2D (i.e. to position, scale and/or rotate an object on a browser or video game). Kids learn basic design and animation their very first day and by the second class are making simple designs and animations by themselves. We then move on to other basic 3D techniques like using tools including deformers to make their objects do goofy things. As we move on we introduce other tools like how to create a material (whether a simple color or something complex like fur), how we use lights, how to render a project (to create a video that, for example, can be watched and/or uploaded to YouTube). Later in the session students learn more intermediate skills like how to make text dance and emulate rain & wind. This is a fun 3D class. Kids can also do plenty of 3D printing (only if they want to). Towards the end of the session students will learn how to export their projects to our HTC Vive virtual reality lab. We will also invest a class or two, should the students desire, on our more advanced systems like augmented reality and our new graffiti touch technology (only for fun).

There are no pre-requisites to this class though students should have basic computer literacy skills. For example, they should know how to copy and paste a file (via Word or PC), how to save a project and how to use Google to do very simple searches.

We offer this beginners class for kids in grades 7 & up on Wednesday evenings and for kids in grades 5 & up on Saturday mornings. The teachers are noted above.

Intermediate 3D: This class is designed for students who have been through 1 or 2 of our programs (whether 2 classes from last year, 1 class from last year and 1 week at our summer camp and/or 2 weeks of our summer camp). This class will start with a re-introduction to basic 3D everything (design/animation/printing) then quickly move on to more intermediate techniques to add more realism to their projects. This will include extensive use of Cinema 4D modeling techniques, animation tags, the physics tools as well as a gentle, and we mean gentle, introduction into Maxon's coding languages (Xpresso and Python) to make their projects more efficient.

Advanced 3D: This class is designed for students who have been through at least 2 of our programs before. We have invested considerable resources into developing this curriculum where students, who have already mastered the basics of 3D design & animation, are introduced into the advanced functionality of today's 3D systems. This class will start, like the others, with a review of the basics of 3D and the more intermediate tools noted above. We will then move quickly into advanced design & animation techniques. We will create complex animations of high render quality from start to finish (kids can render their projects using our render farm). Towards the end of the program kids will develop their own virtual and augmented reality projects. There will be no class on Monday January 1, 2018. The last class will be held on Monday March 26, 2018.

Thank you so much for your interest in Kids Digital U (brought to you by Newton Animations). While our animation studio is quite large, state of the art and outfitted with truly cutting edge technologies, we are limited to one space. We are unable to offer two programs/classes at the same time. Hence if you would like to enroll your child/children in one of our programs but cannot make the time/day of the week noted above work for your child's schedule, then please send us an email at info@kidsdigitalu.com with a little detail and we will see what we can do. We are limited in the number of programs we can offer until we secure an additional space. We will keep our current animation studio through at least the end of the summer of 2018. We're also aggressively seeking additional space and have a number of opportunities to consider. It is an exciting time for us. We will continue to work very hard to deliver your child/children a truly unique, as in genuinely one of a kind, digital learning experience. We hope to be able to offer more programs, and of a shorter term commitment, as soon as possible. Thank you.

Thank you.
